The Chevrolet Impala is initially offered as a coupe and convertible ( cabriolet ) for existing luxury model Bel Air. Later chooses the GM subsidiary Chevrolet to produce the Impala in a separate car. 1959 starts production, a year later the Chevrolet Impala stands throughout the country topped the sales lists. Available in 4- and 5-door Sedan, receives the Impala the most powerful engines, the Chevrolet has to offer. When in 1961 the model Chevrolet Impala SS ( Super Sport ) is introduced, one speaks of the first true muscle car. Equipped with 5,7 or 6,7 liter V8 engine, the SS delivers up to 350 hp. 1986 Impala name is replaced by Caprice, but the name Impala SS from 1994 is used for the benefit of the sport versions Chevrolet Caprice on.In 1996, the production is set, but in 2000 a new model to succeed the Lumina will be released under the name Chevrolet Impala.
